Disney Nature announces movie Oceans

Disneynature OceansDisneynature announced the documentary Oceans to be released for Earth Day (April 22) 2010. Oceans is directed by renowned French film director Jacques Perrin, from Galatee Film Productions, creator of After the Monkey Folk, Microcosmos, Himalaya, and Winged Migrations. It has been in production since 2006 and was announced to be released in 2008 then later in 2009. Now, Disney seems to have taken over distribution and a trailer is now available

Disneynature, located in Paris, France is a specialist film unit that has been set up following oscar-winning success March of the Penguins. Its aim is to work with leading filmmakers to produce one cutting-edge theatrical release every year celebrating wildlife and environment.

Oceans still underwater photographers include Pascal Kobeh, Richard Herrmann and Roberto Rinaldi. Canon Professional website features a detailed interview of Pascal Kobeh about his work on Oceans.

The End of the Line

The End Of The LineThe End of the Line is released today in theaters. It is the first major feature documentary film revealing the impact of overfishing on our oceans and had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Documentary Competition.

In the film we see firsthand the effects of our global love affair with fish as food.

Celebrate World Ocean Day

World Ocean DayToday, June 8, 2009 is World Ocean Day and is now officially declared by the United Nations. This day is an opportunity to raise global awareness of the current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans. As divers and underwater photographers, no doubt this day will resonate to our ears as we are best placed to witness and document the beauty of the ocean as well as the damage that human (including ourselves, divers) have done over the years.

Tourist dies in Red Sea following a shark attack

A women in her 50s died following oceanic white tip shark (Carcharhinus longimanus) attack near St-John's reef in the southern Red Sea. The group of french divers was onboard the liveaboard Le Nautile from Anthias Plongee mooring along with other boats. A group of 20 (!) people was apparently snorkeling around sharks when she was attacked and bitten at the leg causing quick blood loss.

A lot of erroneous information seems to be distorted by media around the world, but sources concerned by the situation give a much clearer picture.
