The End of the Line is released today in theaters. It is the first major feature documentary film revealing the impact of overfishing on our oceans and had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Documentary Competition.

In the film we see firsthand the effects of our global love affair with fish as food.

Today, June 8, 2009 is World Ocean Day and is now officially declared by the United Nations. A women in her 50s died following oceanic white tip shark (Carcharhinus longimanus) attack near St-John's reef in the southern Red Sea. The group of french divers was onboard the liveaboard Le Nautile from Anthias Plongee mooring along with other boats. A group of 20 (!) people was apparently snorkeling around sharks when she was attacked and bitten at the leg causing quick blood loss.

A lot of erroneous information seems to be distorted by media around the world, but sources concerned by the situation give a much clearer picture.
